TSW Dolphins and Capital Swim Club members update
11 th November 2007
Pool Lane Space
Capital and TSW Dolphins representatives have met with the Wellington City Council and pool management in recent weeks, and are pleased to report that lane space will be made available to support the combined clubs from the start of term one on the 11th of February.
The council have been very supportive and sufficient lanes have been allocated to cater for the current Capital and TSW Dolphins swimmers, as well as the current Capital waiting list and the expected influx of other swimmers looking to join the club in the New Year. This should allow the club to cater for the ideal ratio of 6-10 swimmers per lane depending on the squad needs.
Squad Structure
The coaching staff, Gary Hurring and Timon Wilkinson, are currently finalising the term one squad structure, so that this can be announced before the end of the current term. In general terms it is proposed that there will be senior, age-group and junior squads, each with their own head coach, and specified criteria for each level within the squads.
Coaching
Gary Hurring will be overall Head Coach and have primary responsibility for the senior squads. Timon Wilkinson will move to Capital as Junior Head Coach full-time with the closure of the TSW pool in late December. They will continue to be supported by the current assistant coaches including Danyon, Jemma, and Sandy. Additionally a number of the current senior swimmers who have been assisting are being offered coaching training courses.
Applications for the Age-Group Head coach are being assessed, with an appointment to be made prior to the start of term one. The combined club is confident that with the coaches we have and the applications we have received, that we will be able to offer a coaching regime second to none to any other club in the country.
Camps
The combined club will be running three camps over the holiday period. The Feiding camp for senior swimmers will be run by Gary ; a Palmerston North camp for those aiming for Wellington Champs will be run by Timon and a Wellington camp run by Jemma.
Holiday Programme
Between the camp and the start of term one, Orcas, Dolphins, Seals (including ex-TSW Gold and Platinum swimmers), will all train full-time at Freyberg, with Gary hoping to obtain some extra lane time over the holiday period.
Timon will be running a holiday programme prior to the start of term one for members of other squads that have qualified for Wellington Champs. On confirmation of lane space available over the holidays, this may be extended to a wider group.
At the start of term one (11 th February) the new squad structure will be put into place.
What do I have to do?
For current swimmers enrolled with Capital (including ex-TSW Gold & Platinum swimmers), you will just need to liase with the appropriate coach as to camp and holiday programme arrangements. An announcement on squad structure for the new term will be made as soon as this has been finalised.
For current TSW Dolphin Swimmers, you should load down from the Capital website a Capital Swim Club enrolment form. Any application from a TSW Dolphin swimmer is guaranteed a place in the combined squad structure as from 11 February, subject only to an assessment of ability from the relevant coach to determine which squad you will be placed. The completed enrolment forms should be passed to either Mark Berge or Phil Rush by 1 December 2007 . Additionally Mark Berge will arrange a meeting for TSW Dolphin swimmers and parents in the next few weeks to cover the move to Capital. Representatives of TSW Dolphins and Capital Swim Club will be present to answer any queries you have about the move. In the meantime there is information available on the Capital website www.capitalswim.co.nz
Current TSW Dolphins swimmers should liaise with Timon with regards to the January camps and holiday programme.
Other Items
If you have friends looking to train with a swim club next year, with the lane space we have been allocated we will have space for other swimmers. Please direct them to the Capital website. Once again priority will be provided to TSW swimmers.
