Details of competitions are posted on the TSW Dolphins noticeboard in the foyer of TSW Aquatics and on this website.
The competition flyer gives details about the racing:
It is the responsibility of swimmers and parents/caregivers to ensure entries are filled in properly and entered on time. For some meets the coach may indicate the events the swimmer should swim. If no indication is made, swimmers may select their own events. If in doubt, ASK.
Entries forms are available from the rack above the wooden entry box on the window ledge at TSW Swim School.
It is important to read the conditions of the meet properly before submitting entries. Some stipulate that swimmers can only swim three events, others have qualifying times, or may stipulate that only one 200m race can be entered. Check before entering.
Once the entry form is completed, it can either be:
- Emailed to the Race Secretary
- Placed in the wooden box on the window ledge in the TSW Swim School foyer.
The TSW Dolphins Race Secretary checks and submits entries for all competitions.
Entries need to be submitted accurately and arrive at their destination by the date stated on the carnival programme. This all takes time. It is helpful if parents/caregivers and swimmers check their entries before they submit them to prevent the race secretary having to sort out mistakes.
If swimmers are entering their first meet, they should talk to their coach about what is best for them to swim.
Swimmers should aim to race in all four strokes and medley races rather than restricting themselves to one or two strokes.
SCRATCHING FROM RACES
When completing your race entries you are making a commitment to attend a swimming meet and race in the events your are entered for.
Each race entry has a cost. This cost is paid to the meet organiser by TSW Dolphins before the date of the meet and recovered through our monthly race accounts to individual swimmers. Once entered you are liable for that cost even if you do not race, unless you produce a medical certificate.
At some meets on the day scratching commands a fine of $15 per event.
Please make sure you are able to swim the meet before you enter it.
TSW Dolphins is unable to subsidise swimmer's non-attendance.
Official Rules for Access to WRAC Meets
BASIC HANDY HINTS FOR NEW SWIMMERS
1. There are roughly one or two meets per month. They will either cost about $5.00 per swimmer or about $2.00 per event. The big meets (i.e. winter and summer champs will cost around $6.00 per event).
2. Talk to your coach about a swim meet. Check whether it is good for your swimmer to enter and check their recommendations.
3. You will receive emails advising you of meets and other activities. Feel free to ask the Membership & Race Secretary (Katie Hardwick-Smith) if you have any queries.
4. If you enter your swimmer for a meet it is advisable for the swimmer to rest during the afternoon prior to swimming. Your swimmer should take poolside snacks and plenty of liquid to last the evening.
5. Warmup at a swim meet: always arrive about 10 minutes before the warmup time so that you can find a seat and get yourself organised and familiarise yourself with the marshalling area, and so on. Each club always sits together so look out for TSW Dolphins (or the banner) when you arrive.
6. Mark the warmup time and location of the swim meet in your diary. The warmup times can vary and can lead to confusion.
7. Check with other members exactly where the pool is so you don't get lost the first time you try to find it (e.g. Cannons Creek Pool).
8. For the first few meets, write down for yourself at home (the swimmer), exactly which event you have entered so that you don't panic and worry about forgetting.
9. Food to take to a meet: some meets can be quite long (until 9pm), so take sustaining food which is light and easily digestible (e.g. pasta, fruit, light biscuits (not chocolate)), and plenty to drink. It is also good to take something to keep your feet warm, particularly in the winter.Parents : suggest a cushion!
10. Be organised at the meet . Keep your clothes in your bag. It is very easy for someone to pick up your goggles, your cap, or your Tshirt. If you wear your clothes to marshalling, and leave them in the box at the end of the lane, REMEMBER to collect them afterwards.
11. From time to time swimmers get sore ears - a good remedy is Vosol (swimmers drops), or something similar.
